# What kind of action steps can I use in a sequence?

ReachBoost allows you to build outreach sequences using different action types and wait steps. This gives you full flexibility in creating personalized and natural LinkedIn campaigns.

---

### Profile visits

A profile visit can be used as the first step in your sequence before sending a connection request. Visiting someone's profile increases visibility because LinkedIn Premium users can see who viewed their profile.

**Common use case**: Visit a prospect's profile first to create familiarity before sending a connection request.

---

### Connection requests

Connection requests can be sent to both 2nd and 3rd degree connections. If a connection request is not accepted, ReachBoost automatically withdraws the pending request after three weeks. If you have a paid LinkedIn subscription, you can also include a message with your connection request.

LinkedIn limits connection request messages to a maximum of 275 characters.

---

### Follow-up messages

Once someone accepts your connection request, you can automatically send follow-up messages. You can add as many follow-up steps as needed within your sequence. Keep your follow-up sequences concise and relevant. Too many messages can make your outreach feel spammy.

---

### Wait steps

Wait steps determine when the next action in your sequence will be executed.

**Wait after a connection request**: The waiting period starts from the moment the prospect accepts your connection request. For example, if you configure a 3-day wait step, the follow-up message will be sent 3 days after the connection request has been accepted.

**Wait between follow-up messages**: For follow-up messages, the waiting period starts after the previous message has been sent. This allows you to gradually space out your outreach.

---

### Automatic stop on replies

As soon as a prospect replies, the automated sequence immediately stops. The conversation is then moved to the Unified Inbox so you can continue the discussion manually.

---

### Variables

Variables allow you to personalize messages automatically. To insert a variable, click **Variables** while editing a message.

Example: `Hey [[first_name]], thanks for connecting.`

ReachBoost variables are displayed in **purple**.

---

### Custom variables

If you import leads via Excel or through the API, you can use your own custom variables. This allows you to personalize messages with virtually any data point you provide to ReachBoost.

Example: `Hey [[first_name]], I noticed you're based in [[location]].`

Custom variables must always be placed between double brackets: `[[variable_name]]`

Custom variables are displayed in **orange**, while standard ReachBoost variables are displayed in **purple**.
